About Us

NEWEST UPDATE:

As outlined in this post, I’ve begun the blog again but not necessarily focused on travel.  Posts will be less frequent than I was writing at the end of 2023. We will begin our travels again soon though and more posts are on their way!

PREVIOUS UPDATE:

This site was from a trip we took as noted below several years ago.  Unfortunately, I stopped updating it as we go further into our trip.  I’m leaving it her in case we go back on the road, and I want to reactivate it!

ORIGINAL INFO:

We recently celebrated the 21st anniversary of the beginning of our wonderful life together. We begin each day thanking God for all his gifts!  We have a blast exploring the country whenever we can.  In our travels, we can usually be found searching out natural settings, good music, wine, microbrews and peace and quiet.

Kevin retired from an IT career about twelve years ago. Kate continued to work as a Registered Nurse, specializing in hospice care. We moved from the San Diego area to Connersville, Indiana, so we could spend time with Kevin’s Dad, Len, during his final years.  What a great experience!  We were able to enjoy our time with Len until his death at age 101 last October. We have loved being connected to such a wonderful community. Thanks to Len, we found a church home here that we love as well.

Although we love our community, we were looking forward to hitting the road full-time in a motorhome or 5th wheel after Kate retired, which we thought would be in about seven years.  But if there is one thing that Kate has learned from her work in hospice is that when you have a goal, there is no time like the present to go after it.  We are not guaranteed any tomorrows in this life, so every day is precious.  We reevaluated our plans, and Kate retired early, at least for the first time, in September 2017.  We started making plans to hit the road!

Rather than waiting to sell the house and trade up to a larger motorhome or 5th wheel, we have decided to first spend a few months on the road with Homer, our 2015 RV Cruiser Fun Finder 210UDS travel trailer.  Homer is 21′ 9″ long (smaller on the inside!) and has served as our vacation home for the past few years.  However, Kate really hasn’t been able to take any vacations!  Now, to make up for that, we will call Homer just plain home for the next few months.  Kevin will share all the little modifications we’ve made to Homer and doodads we’ve purchased to accommodate our needs on this long trip.

We’ll be posting two or three times a week, sharing our travel stories, photos, thoughts, and general ramblings.  We do tend to ramble a bit – in both senses of the word!  Kate will be getting back to learning photography and hopefully improving her travel photos and by sampling brews wherever we go, we will eventually find the perfect craft beer for each of our tastes! If not, we will surely have a great time searching!
