Why the blog? Why the trip?

As we get ready to head out soon on a several-month-long trip in our trailer, Kevin and I are learning much!  We have been learning about the trailer’s electrical system, our loosely planned route, roadside assistance plans, mail-forwarding services, and how to do this WordPress blog thing.  These are only a few entries on a much longer list!   Since I took an early retirement a few weeks ago (which, admittedly, may turn out to be the equivalent of The Who’s Farewell Tour) I am still looking forward to the lazy stress-free days of retirement.  I had a taste of that on retreat at Saint Meinrad’s Archabbey, which I’ll tell you more about at another time, but now, there is so much to learn and do to prepare to go on our trip!

So, why the blog you ask?  We are starting this blog for a few reasons: to keep in touch with our old friends, family, and new friends we meet along the way while we are on the road;  keep and share a record of our trip with photos, thoughts, and experiences; have more control over how photos and entries appear than we can get from Facebook; and include those friends who don’t use Facebook at all.

Kevin and I have always enjoyed traveling together.  Some of our best memories are from our tent-camping days in the Pacific Northwest, and our explorations of new and interesting places: Yosemite National Park,  Lake Tahoe, Redwood National Park, and so many other beautiful places in our amazing country.

Here are some of our favorite photos from our past trips!

We are still learning WordPress, so when I learn how to make the captions show we will update the slideshow (done, along with improved slideshow code!)

We’ll be adding many photos and other images to the gallery, so check it often and I hope you will see my photography skills improve throughout this trip!

We always looked forward to traveling full-time “when we retire someday.”  One thing I have learned in my work as a hospice nurse is that for many people, someday never comes.  So, I am grateful that the Lord has given me an opportunity to stop working (at least for a while) and take some downtime to enjoy Kevin’s company and go exploring!

You can expect to see lots of changes and improvements in this site as Kevin and I learn more and add more features.  For now, you may hit a dead end or two, but please be patient.  In the “About Us” section, I plan on listing what’s new on the website.

I hope you’ll comment on our posts, and keep in touch as we travel!

Blessings to you all!
